My name is JJ. I have been filming, freelance and for friends, for almost 10 years now. I have been on a skateboard since I could walk, but I really got into the filming aspect of it when I was enrolled in my high school video/film class in '02. From there I learned all the aspects of motion design, composition, moving animation, angles, white balance, exposure, and every other aspect of filming and editing that has led me to where I am today. What really drew me in though was the environment and people I met who have become lifelong friends, and the memories I've gained along the way from approaching the skate community as a videographer and observer and not just a skateboarder. I forgot where I heard it, but I heard this quote a while ago and it really struck me as what I felt inside when I thought back on my life and experiences through filming in the skate community. It goes like this, "I have entered into a realm with many trials and tribulations that many have walked and many have exited victorious. My heart tells me to go forward, my brain tells me to wait, and my soul tells me to hang on for the ride of my life. As I look back now, I regret naught, except maybe that I could have spiced it up a bit more!". Best quote I've ever heard and to this day still represents me to the core!
Today I find myself finding a more and more creative / artistic approach to filming and editing but still constantly strive to better myself and improve my filming and editing in every sense and possible way. I may have learned a lot over the years due to the people, places, and friends I've surrounded myself with, but in the overall picture I'm just a student. As a wise man once told me, "You don't stop learning because you grow too old, you grow too old because you stop learning".
My hope is to one day achieve my dream of obtaining a long-term contract with a prospective company, skate related or not, that will enable me to follow my dreams of becoming a professional videographer for as long as I possibly can. So far, life has had it's ups and downs as all life does, but I am very optimistic for the future and ready for all the experiences life throws my way!
